A Message from the Board Chair
Dear MCS Families,
I would like to welcome you back to MCS for the 2024-2025 school year! We are looking forward to another year of giving your children the best possible educational opportunities and experiences.
Attendance is critical to our school’s budget. As a public school, MCS is funded by the State of Idaho. Unlike the Moscow School District, we do not receive supplemental levy funds from local taxpayers. The state gives us money based on attendance, not on enrollment. So, while we might have 196 students enrolled at MCS, if only 180 of them attend school regularly, we won’t receive funding for the other 16. We need every dollar to do things like pay our teachers, buy supplies, and keep the lights and heating / AC on! So attendance really does matter for our bottom line – in addition to the most important thing, our students’ learning.
We need students to be in school in order to teach them. When they are out of school, not only are they not there learning, they also experience learning loss! Being at school every day is important both for learning new things and for reinforcing and strengthening that learning. So, please make sure that when you plan your family’s travel and other events, you check the school calendar and try to avoid taking your children out of school.
If you would like to learn more about how all this works, please consider attending a Board meeting. Or feel free to reach out to me or to Mr. B with your questions.
I look forward to seeing you at Back to School night soon, and at MCS events throughout the year!
Sincerely yours,
Leslie Baker
