Elementary Keyboarding and Robotics (Period 3rd - 5th Grade)

Elementary PE and Robotics

 

Keyboarding is taught using www.typing.com as a learning platform. This program encourages students to learn the keys in a methodical progression, using games as rewards throughout the lessons. Robotics is taught using block coding. The robots, Dot and Dash, are controlled using apps hosted by Make Wonder. There are built in challenges to teach students the various capabilities of the robots. Additional challenges are limited by the imagination of the classroom. Students also have the opportunity to use a different block coding platform through www.code.org, the Hour of Code challenges allow students opportunities to free play and see how their characters react to their coding choices. The development of the combined keyboarding and programming skills provide students with a dynamic learning opportunity that will grow their confidence with computer use throughout their education.
