Moscow Charter School

Suggested Donations

An urgent message from the Moscow Charter School Board and Principal

Dear Moscow Charter School Parents,

We are writing to inform you how vitally important donations are in allowing Moscow Charter School to continue being the wonderful place it is for learning. We are sure that you are aware, as a charter school, we do not collect local levy monies and receive significantly less funding from the State and Federal government than other public schools. In the April 2014 report Charter School Funding: Inequity Expands ( prepared by researchers at the University of Arkansas, Idaho was one of nineteen states to receive a grade of F for the disparity between regular public school funding and charter school funding. Idaho charter schools receive 25.8% less funding than the corresponding regular public schools in Idaho.

Donations are used to fund specialty classes, school maintenance, heating/cooling, water/sewer, and anything else that may arise throughout the year. State funding is insufficient, so we need to continue requesting donations for the upcoming school year. For those of you who have not already made the “suggested donation” the requested minimum donation is $205 per student.

This year the suggested donations received total $8,967.40 for our current enrollment of 177 students (anticipated total $36,285.00), with only 30 of our 116 families making any donation to MCS. There are many different ways you can make contributions to MCS such as one full sum, a payment plan, bill pay from your bank account, or the donation button on the schools website. Donation of up to $2,000 (married) or $1,000 (single) gives you half the amount back in an Idaho State Income Tax credit (real money in your pocket) and will also generate a taxable deduction for your Federal Taxes.

If you would like to make this an end of year tax donation you can mail a check to Moscow Charter School at the address below, use bill pay from your bank account, drop off payments during school hours in the main office or put after office hours donations in the drop box outside the front door. The school will issue you with a letter for your tax filing purposes. Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and most especially for contributing desperately needed funds to Moscow Charter School.
