Q. Is there a tuition to attend MCS?
A. Moscow Charter School is a free public school open to anyone in Moscow and the surrounding area.
Q. Will you be offering full day Kindergarten?
A. Yes, starting in the fall of 2016 MCS will have full day Kindergarten at no extra cost to families!
Q. How big are your class sizes? Is there more than one class per grade?
A. We have one class per grade, each class is capped at 22 students.
Q. Does the charter school follow Moscow School District's calendar?
A. MCS has a contract with MSD to provide bussing. Therefore, we follow the MSD calendar and keep the same hours. 8:30 - 3:00 Monday - Thursday with early release on Friday's at 2:15.
Q. To whom does the charter school report?
A. MCS reports to the state and to the Moscow School District, who we are chartered through.
Q. Where does charter school funding come from?
A. MCS receives minimal money from the state and does not receive any money from the local levies. We depend on donations, fundraisers, and grant writing to continue to provide our specialty programs which are so central to the MCS experience.
Q. What extracurricular activities are available to my middle schooler?
A. MCS kids are allowed and encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities through MCS, MSD, and other local agencies. Including but not limited to, marimba club, band, orchestra, football, basketball, track, and dance club.
Q. Do you have sports teams?
A. Our school is not large enough to facilitate sports teams, however, MCS students participate in team sports offered through the Moscow School District. We do have two dance teams that have performed throughout the area for the past couple of years.
Q. Do you have orchestra or band?
A. MCS has a wonderful marimba program that has performed around Moscow and in Oregon. MCS students also participate in orchestra and band through the Moscow School District.
